I wanted to be a mom ever since I was a little girl. I loved taking care of babies and small children and knew I wanted my own someday. It wasn’t until I was 31 when that happened and I remember the day I found out I was pregnant, I was super excited. The next 9 months went by so slow. I wanted to see and hold my baby girl so badly I could almost taste it. Finally the day came and she was about to arrive.
I loved the sound of her cry the moment she was born but I had no idea how much of that crying I was going to hear over the next several months. My first daughter was not a happy baby, but for no reason. She had no medical problems, she didn’t have reflux issues, she wasn’t really collicky she just couldn’t get enough sleep to be happy. Needless to say the first few months were not fun. I often wondered if we were really meant to be parents. I was completely sleep deprived because I was up until about 1 am or 2 am every night trying to get her to stay asleep. I was extremely emotional all the time and I cried at the drop of a hat. My husband had no idea what to do.
We eventually made it through but I will admit it was the hardest thing I had ever done, but I learned to teach my daughter how to sleep and now she is a champion sleeper! Today she is 5 and I watch her sleep at night and think of those nights that her and I spent together and I’m so glad I had that time with her. It’s not like I had a choice, it was my job as a mom to do all I could do to help her. I know there will be more tough times as both my daughter’s grow and though I may want to toss in the towel, I won’t because that’s not what mom’s do.
