We had a cool July here in New England but we are paying for it now that it’s August. It’s almost as if we are getting July weather in August. Does that mean we are going to get August weather in September?? I hope not, I love fall and look forward to it cooling down in September.
When we moved into our house 5 years ago there was an old beat up swingset in the backyard. It still worked and our friends kids enjoyed it while they were visiting. Then we started having children and decided we wanted to get them a brand new one. I started saving their birthday and Christmas money and began noticing what playground equipment my 4 year old enjoyed the most because if we had one in our backyard it would mean less trips to the playground and we would save money on gas.
We looked at a lot of swing sets anf finally found the one we thought was best for us and our yard. We talked about where to build it in relation to where I usually am in the yard so they would be close by. We spent the entire day building it and still had to add on all the extras. It took a lot of time but it was well worth it. Our oldest absolutely loved it and now our youngest is loving it this year.
But my advice to you when you decide to put a swing set in your backyard no matter how big it is…. don’t put it in the only place that doesn’t have any shade in the entire backyard. Do you know how hot it is in the sun standing there pushing a child or two on the swings?? It’s really hot and I do not enjoy doing it in the middle of the day. Needless to say they play in the tree house and on the slide more than the swings some days.
Also, what age do kids learn to swing themselves? We’ve been trying to teach our 4 year old but she just isn’t getting it. Is she too young? Or lazy?
By the way, when we bought our new set I listed our old one on Freecycle because I know not everyone can afford to buy a new one and kids deserve to have a swing set. Someone could easily fix it up.
