Yesterday I spoke at Shecon with a few of my favorite blogging friends NicolesNickels, SheSaved and WildForWags about making money blogging. Below is a list of the companies I use to turn my blog into at least a part time job.
It’s perfectly ok to turn a profit on you blog, or monetize your blog. The biggest way I earn money on my blog is through affiliates. So I’ve put together a list of companies that I’ve worked with over the past 2+ years that have helped me turn my passion into a profit.
But first of all I want to tell you that I put a LOT of time into this blog. I usually jump on and off all day in between trying to getting things done around the house, taking care of my children, running household errands and spending time with my family. It’s not easy but I LOVE WHAT I do and my husband completely supports me so we find a way to make it work. I also spend my evenings writing, planning and returning emails. So the money I make isn’t for nothing, that’s for sure. It’s a great way to compensate the time I spend here, and away from my family. And it’s hard work some times. So if you think it’s easy, you probably won’t succeed as a blogger. No matter what kind of blog you write, it does take time and commitment.
There are lots of ways to make money with your blog but the number one reason to blog MUST be because you love blogging, not because you want to make money. Otherwise it’s not going to work.
Like I said above, I earn most of my money through affiliates. Anyone can join affiliate companies no matter what kind of blog you write. There’s a huge variety of campaigns that these companies have so your likely to find something to fit your blog. My blog is about saving money but if you blog about other things, these companies will work for you as well.
And don’t just try out one company, try out a bunch because what works for me, may not work for you. It all depends on your content.
Here are some great affiliate companies I’ve done well with.
The following Companies have a nice mix of offers – Coupons, Free Samples, Sweepstakes, Surveys, Online Offers and more (and yes that is my referral link too!)
Shopping – If you review products or talk about products on your website, then you can ad an affiliate link to purchase that product online, and when someone makes a purchase you’ll receive a commission
Ads – These companies will run ads on your site that are relevant to your content. Just ad them to your site and that’s it! If you reach the monthly payout amount, you’ll be paid once a month. Very easy money!
You will have to give them your social security number and fill out a W-9 and if you earn over $600 they will send you a 1099 at the end of the year, though you are required to report any earnings, even under $600. For this reason be sure you keep track of any expenses you accrue during the course of the year to offset your earnings. If your not sure what you can expense talk to a CPA.
I’m in no way’s an expert when it comes to Affiliates however I’ve been working with them for over a year now so if you have questions I’ll try to answer them for you. Also the Affiliate Managers for each company are very helpful and will always answer any questions you have. They want you to be successful as an affiliate too!
If you work with any of these affiliate companies and have had success, leave a comment and share with everyone. Also if I’m missing one that you work with let me know. I’m always looking for more affiliate companies.
