There are so many people in this world that don’t know if and when they will eat again. It’s sad, it really is. No amount of coupons will help if the money just isn’t there. Part of the problem is unemployment is very high. Here in RI the unemployment rate is 11.7%. That number may seem small but it really isn’t. You can look here to see the communities with the highest unemployment rate as determined by the Department of Labor Report.
Feeding America helps those people and Walmart has partner with them and 4 big companies – ConAgra, General Mills, Kraft and Kellogg’s – to help even more families.
And guess what? We can help Vote to fight spring hunger with Walmart because between April 9th and April 30th you can help in Walmart stores and online. You can go to the store between April 9 and April 30 and purchase select products from ConAgra, General Mills, Kraft and Kellogg’s, and you can donate meals to Feeding America or Action for Healthy Kids, a nonprofit fighting childhood hunger. You’ll find more information in stores on signs and on packages.
You can also vote on Facebook for your community. I will vote for Rhode Island, of course. You can vote for what ever community is dear to you. Walmart will donate a total of $2 million to the 21 communities receiving the most support. That is awesome of them, don’t you think? If we all pool our resources together we may be able to put a dent in the amount of people that go to bed hungry every day.
