Pop's Corn - All3

I shared with you lots of Newman’s Own Organics snacks not too long ago and now I have something to add to that list!  After the pretzels, cookies, chocolate bars, and chocolate cups successfully launched, “What’s next?” was the question Nell Newman and partner Peter Meehan asked themselves.   What was the next favorite childhood snack food could they produce organically?   And what new item would appeal to “Pa” Newman? And that’s when they came up with it –“Pop’s Corn, ” an organic microwave popcorn .

I love the play on words with this popcorn and I love the though that they put into it to make it so personal to the brand.  The more I learn of this brand the more I love it!   You can find this organic brand of popcorn in 3 flavors –  Butter Flavored, Light Butter Flavored, and
No Butter, No Salt.

We received a box of the No Butter, No Salt to try.  It’s 94% fat free and has not added salt but there is some sodium still in it….though trust me, you can not taste it!  It tastes just like air-poped popcorn with no butter and no salt.  Needless to say while it tasted good, we still had to add salt and butter.  But I love the idea of starting out without anything so I could control how much was on it for my family.  They really enjoyed once I “fixed it up!”.

Each box contains three packets and has the eye-catching design used on all the company’s products, an American Gothic “Pa” Newman and daughter Nell!  I love the packaging as well, it sure is eye-catching! It retails for about $2.99 a box!  Not a bad price.

Pop’s Corn features organic corn and organic palm oil and has no partially hydrogenated shortening or trans fatty acids are used.

“Organic palm oil should not be confused with palm kernel oil,” states Meehan. “Palm kernel oil is extracted from a nut and is generally solvent extracted and must be refined before use. Palm oil is extracted only from the fruit, like olive and avocado oil, and is not refined, only filtered. Unlike butter, palm shortening is plant derived, so it has no cholesterol and is lower in saturated fat than butter.”

“We feel our popcorn is terrific on its own, but it is also perfect for adding favorite ingredients ” states Nell Newman. “Try adding a little sour cream and onion or Cajun spice. You can make a tasty treat by adding a little of Dad’s Ranch Dressing or even nacho cheese with chiles. For a real healthy addition try garlic salt and Brewer’s yeast. It’s fun for family members to make and enjoy together. I certainly have good memories of doing this.”

I’ll have to grab some of the butter flavored and try that next.  I bet they would like it just the way it is then!  Have you tried any of the Newman’s Own Orgaincs Pop’s-Corn?  If so I’d love to hear your thoughts!
