I wanted to try Peapod since I had my first daughter 8 years ago. But they didn’t deliver to my old house, but they do deliver to my new house! I always figured for me, this would be very helpful during the extremely cold months and the holidays or when my husband was traveling so I don’t have to lug both kids to the grocery store. There is a small fee but when you think of the time and money you spend on gas, I think it’s worth it.
Well I finally had an opportunity to give it a whirl. Earlier this year, I had a stress fracture in my foot which meant I had to wear a very uncomfortable boot for almost 3 months! The first couple of weeks it was very difficult and uncomfortable to walk in and over time I get better at it. But I couldn’t really walk the aisles of the grocery store. My husband suggested I try Peapod and I thought it was a great idea (finally he came up with something good!)
Peapod is easy to use and you basically shop each aisle at the store from your home. They have pretty much all the basic items, and them some. Different sizes may not be available but they had enough to choose from. I could even order produce, meats and deli items. I placed my order and picked a time that worked well for me. They even offer discounts if you pick a specific time.
If you’ve never used Peapod before you may not know that they bring the bags into the house for you and set them on the counter. That to me is worth every penny of the (small) delivery charge. You can even use coupons on your purchase. You just hand them to the driver when they deliver your food and you will receive a credit that will be applied to your credit card which you used for payment. They also have most of the same sale prices that you’ll get at the store. They only prices that may be different is what’s on the front of the sales ad because those are sometimes regional. But they don’t jack up the prices just because it’s delivery.
My cousin is disabled and can’t get to the store as easily as she’d like to. And she also can’t always find someone to do her grocery shopping for her. For years we’ve been telling her about Peapod and she finally tried it. She loved it and what I think she loved the most about it was she was in control of what she got. If someone took her, she would be on their time and would have to sometimes rush through the store. Or if she went alone, she was limited on what she could reach and even purchase herself. So Peapod offers her the opportunity to shop the entire (well mostly) store and take her time doing it. I think it’s perfect for someone like her that isn’t able to go to the store themselves.
A few more reasons I think someone should use Peapod:
- A new mom – she could order while the baby sleeps, even in the middle of the night and then plan for it to arrive during a time period that works for her.
- An elderly person with a pet – Dog food bags are heavy and my be difficult for an elderly person to carry. Let Peapod deliver them for you and they’ll bring them in your house.
- A mom who needs to stock up on paper products – If you have small children you probably use the shopping card to contain them while shopping. This leaves little room for bulky items. Peapod is perfect for purchasing Toilet Paper and Paper Towels in bulk along with cases of water and soda!
- A working mom – Working mom’s have little time to themselves and even less time to go shopping. If she works 9-5 she could place her order late at night and have it delivered after she returned home from work. Then the grocery’s are done. Such a great help for a working mom, or dad too!
- Returning from Vacation – If you are returning from vacation and have no food in your house, you can plan ahead to have your groceries delivered to you once you return home.
These are just a few reasons I think Peapod would come in handy but I’m sure there are lots of other reasons you may have to use Peapod. The price of delivery may even pay for itself with what you’d spend in gas and your time.
