My thoughts: The manufacturer of the Pogo Sketch claims to work interactively with your iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch or Macbook trackpad. Having all of those devices at my disposal due to my obsession with Apple products, I was able to test it out on each one.

The first and most obvious use was the iPad, which I thought would have been a super easy interaction. It was serviceable at best, but I found myself wanting to use my finger at the first sign that the Pogo didn’t register it’s intended target. The package claims that it works at a natural drawing angle but I found myself holding it straight on and not at an angle in order to make it work more effectively. I then downloaded a drawing app to run the Pogo through its paces. Again, I wanted to switch back to my finger almost immediately. Things didn’t get much better as I changed devices. One thing held for each – when I slid the Pogo across the screen or trackpad, it had this weird foam-on – plastic feeling. It was unsettling to say the least.

I guess if you’re wearing gloves in the winter or perhaps if you have long nails then maybe this could come in handy… but the bottom line is that Apple has created each device to be used interactively with your hands. The Pogo Sketch is just another thing that will end up at the bottom of your bag, that’s going to eventually find its way into the junk drawer of your kitchen. I’m sure there are people out there who find a tool like this to be helpful but for me I’m going to continue using my Apple devices the way Steve intended- with my own two hands.
