You may recall that last week I told you about the New American Express Prepaid card which is perfect for traveling, especially if you are on a budget! You may also remember that I was in  San Diego for the BlogHer conference and I used the prepaid card all week and I shared with you how easy it was to use.

Now I’m back home and have been for a week and I wanted to share with you a little bit more about the American Express Prepaid card.  Like I mentioned last week, I used it while at BlogHer for various expenses, big and small, and each time it was a breeze.  It works exactly as the American Express card works only you won’t receive a bill in the mail since it’s already paid for!

I can think of several reasons to continue using the prepaid card, and I will continue to use it.  I think it’s a fabulous budgeting tool that can be used not only while traveling but even for your day to day spending.  If you are on a very strict grocery budget, you can load that onto your card each month or week and then you’ll be forced to stick to it since you can’t overdraw.  Of course you’ll need to leave all other means of payment at home if you don’t have the will power.  LOL

With the kids heading back to college, this card can also come in handy for spending money for the college kids.  Mom and Dad can load money on when needed, and then the kids can spend it as needed.  If there’s no money on the card, they can’t overspend either.  It’s a great way to teach them about budgeting as well.

So how can you get one? Just head on over to AmericanExpress.com/prepaid and order a card. It’s free and you can select from a few colors. You can order the card without even putting any money on it. It takes about 1-2 weeks to arrive so make sure you leave yourself plenty of time before you need it.

Have you already used an American Express Prepaid card?  I’d love to hear about it if you have.

Disclosure: American Express sponsored my trip to BlogHer by providing me with money to load onto the prepaid American Express card in exchange for me sharing my experiences on my blog.  My opinions are 100% mine.
