Product Name: Zippo Emergency Fire Starter Kit
Product Information: Now that Summer is gone, FEMA is trying to keep disaster preparedness in mind, especially since September was National Disaster Preparedness Month. In September they launched the annual consumer awareness campaign with the goal of raising awareness among the average American to be prepared for disasters of all types. Whether it’s an earthquake, mud slide, hurricane or power outage from a severe thunderstorm, disasters can happen at any time and every family should be prepared.
In case you missed (or even if you didn’t) brushing up on your disaster preparedness knowledge, here is a short list of what you might need in an emergency bag for their family to be prepared for when disaster may strike.
Products to pack and have at the ready can run the gamut, including:
- Water (one gallon per person per day)
- Food (ready to eat or requiring minimal water)
- First aid kit and any special needs items for children, seniors or people with disabilities
- Several reliable sources of fire
- Go-bags should even be made for pets with any basic supplies they may need.
One thing on this list that jumps out at me as something that most people probably don’t have in their vehicles or emergency kits are fire products. We actually DO have them in our kits, although until I did this review, I did NOT know that. My hubby had to point them out to me, but after researching this product for this post, I now see how a fire starter could be oh so important, and even life saving. In many cases, the ability to start a fire could be the difference between life and death.
Are you familiar with Zippo products? They are most known for their lighters, but they have many other wonderful products too, inclucing Emergency Fire Starter Kits as well as other products such as a Cedar Fire Starter and a Hand Warmer too.
You can read more about the Emergency Fire Starter here.
My Thoughts: This is a really handy thing to have around now a days with all the bad weather we’ve been having. We just went through hurricane Sandy and lost electricity for less than a day, thankfully but a lot of people lost it for longer, and still don’t have it. Being stuck without electricity and no source of heat or hot water can be very hard. It wasn’t too bad outside at least weather wise so heat wasn’t a big issue but it can be during these times.
It’s good to have some way to start a fire whether it be to keep warm, cook food or to get help and having something as handy as the Zippo Fire Starter, would be a big help. Defiantly something to keep in the emergency kit!

Thanks for the opportunity to win. I’m sure the storms back east have stirred up a lot of concern about food storage and emergency kits. Your give away is a great way to get started. I also recommend putting together a 72 hour kit and simple first aid kit. Then make sure you have ample amounts of water stored for one week.
I live in an earthquake area so I would love to have this for my 72 hour kit!
We go camping alot and this would come in hand then.
This would be handy for camping and for when the power goes out during snow storms and you need to light the wood stove/fore place.

This would be great for camping.
Would come in handy when the lights go out, time for candles!
This would have been handy when our power was out for 7 days last week
I think it would come in handy while camping and during a power outage.
This would be handy for when our power goes out which does not take much as our lines are still shaky.
